Purpose

Currently in Red Deer, there are many people living on fixed incomes that are well below the poverty line for Canada. With continued automation in local industries and down sizing of large companies and corporations the strain on these social services is growing. Also, as the majority of the Canadian population ages, many are left lonely and with limited means of support. Loaves and Fishes is here to help meet these growing demands. Through the love and compassion of a growing volunteer base, many social needs are being met. This important ministry offers a variety of services to the community including the supper meal on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, daily lunches for 172 children in 25 local schools. The Red Deer School Board nominated Loaves and Fishes for the Friends of Education Award 2000. Praise for the Children’s Foundation who are supporting us with funding for our school lunches. Loaves and Fishes also provides transportation for people who need access to medical services, food and clothing hampers as well as pick up and drop off services for special events.

SPECIAL EVENTS We celebrate our guest’s birthdays, baby showers, farewell get togethers and funeral receptions.

A young man, deeply depressed, emotionally ill, and addicted to alcohol, was found by the river one cold January morning. He wanted to kill himself, feeling worthless and a burden to family and society. Suicide seemed to be his only option. God divinely intervened, and Jim came back with us to find warmth and people who really cared. A few days later, Jim asked Jesus to be his Lord and Savior. He’s on his way. There are so many stories like Jim’s and not enough room or time. Please come down and see for yourselves.
